FOLLOWING on the success of the black section campaign for the LPYS place of the Labour Party NEC, the black sections youth committee has decided to launch a major campaign amongst students aimed at winning support for black self-organisation and black sections, for the defence campaigns and for black people in struggle throughout the world ment from the NUS itself. The black section campaign in the LPYS was all about how it is crucial for the labour movement to win the support of black youth. done by supporting demands of black youth alliances with organisation.
The NUS and students in colleges are a major section of the labour movement and their role in this is vital. We feel there is a lot of potential support for the struggles of black people in Britain anu Ine struggle in Azania amongst students.
From the beginning of term in the next student year in September, we are planning major campaigning in colleges, This will involve speaking tours, building a network of support in the colleges and linking up with the situation in the labour movement and the black communities.
There will be two themes to the tours. Firstly, we want to organise joint tours with speakers from different aspects of the liberation movements in Azania. In particular, we recognise the important role of students in Azania as well as speakers from organisations fighting trade unions such as MAWU and COSATU. We will have speakers COSAS. Building up to this, the youth committee is producing an education and recruiting leaflet aimed at black youth and the wider community in Britain on the struggle in Azania, including the education of black youth and the fight by the students.
Secondly, we will be building a speaking tour with the black youth defence campaigns. We want to campaign with them around the colleges and explain the need for students to actively oppose the injustices that are being suffered by black people. Students should find out how to get involved with these defence campaigns and how to support them financially and physically.
All of this will be linked to fighting for support for those who want a labour movement based on alliances with black people. NUS has a big role to play in this.
The decision of the NUS conference on Ireland to support Aritish determination - is very important and can be used to lead to mass campaigning activity.
