FOR LABOUR this year's strikes a positive note with the NEC's decision to allow the regions to determine how women •will be represented. Four resolutions in support of last year's deciSiOn reserve five women's seats on the executive will now be withdrawn.
(Pollock Labour Party)
But the real problem is that the issue of women's oppression hardly discussed. One resolution each on equal pay and lesbian rights this year hardly such a hearing.
Yet again the party will be virtually silent on issues of particular concern women.
It is hardly surprising then that many Scottish view the five wonel women's seats as a fairly modest concession, comto give women a real choice. HARRIS Some of the changes needed were contained in this year's LPYS conterence demanding: women elect their own NEC representatives, five resolutions from women's to go regional annual conference, and woman every short list. Unfortunately SUCH tor greater were rejected by the LPYS.
Women's Action Committee so far nonexistent in Scotland. The possibility of real change is held back by the lack of such a campaigning group.
The move to organise a WAC from this year's regional conference marks an attempt to build on this year's limited gains ...BUT WE PREFER TO REGARD THE RESULT AS NOTABLE SUCCESS FOR THE SDP/LIBERAL YOU'RE INSANE! • IN A SENSE COULD SAY IT WAS A REJECTION OF EXTREMIST LABOUR POLICIES.
